the situation is that the shtf, thieves stealing things, gangs of people murdering and the government will take 5 months to reorganize the police and military and make life back to normal

electricity lasts for 1 1/2 months after the event starts as well as the other utilities

would you try to avoid having to shoot/kill anyone more so of you knew that in about 5 months everything would be back to normal?

You make like a hole in the water. That's the reason for being prepared...not having to go out for food or water...or otherwise attract undue attention.

Well you'll never know if it's one month, five months or five years. When the power and utilities go off and are off for months, you assume the worst.

I hope I never have to make a choice to shoot/kill. The same rules apply then as now...if they mean harm to me or the family, it's on like a pot of neck bones.

In that case the violence needs to be fast, overwhelming and final.

In shtf, I will NOT be leaving my property and support network I've worked out. I do no have a bug out bag, only a get home bag. I'm hoping with all of our support, gardening skills, canning, hunting and processing that within those 5 months we'll personally be fine. I will not pull the trigger in any other scenario other than defense. Just like bill said, at that point it has to be absolute. I'm not taking any chances on my family, I'm simply going to provide for mine.

Fix yourself a schedule monthly on how prepared you want to be by the next. You'll be pleasantly surprised on how prepared you'd be.

Well said!

We always need to do our part to maintain civilization, in both the darkest hours and the bright days. We help each other, watch out for our neighbors, reach out & support those in need, & act with swift and decisive violence when our families are in danger. We've got to be the men our daddies' wanted us to be, the the remnant, the remainder, the faint glimmer of light.

If I had to shoot anyone it would be because of their bad intentions and no other reason. I've lived thru a violent home invasion with me coming out on my feet and am a veteran, temporary or forever SHTF makes no difference to me. I pray it doesn't ever happen again but I'll respond exactly the same again if it does.
