if someone told me this happened to them, I would assume they exaggerated a little

but damn......this is what parenting looks like for some people today.

my mother/father/uncle/whoever I was with would have beat my stupid little ass, jail or not, if I acted in such a manner

It’s really pretty sad, she thinks she can hit her kid or ignore her kid, like that’s her only two options. That kid will sell/do drugs in just a few years. And like the OP said, will be incarcerated by 16. Unfortunately, the way the system is, he won’t stay in jail, he will be in and out until he does something like kill someone.
