This rifle is not for hunting. Well, at least not four legged game.Just another discussion on opinions. For hunting, I don't need a detachable mag. And I've lost a mag while hunting.

That's awesome man. I don't think I've ever seen a straight pull scout. Style points for days!If there is such a think as "old school" for a scout rifle, here's mine. Nikon pistol glass on a homemade mount, fitted to the rear sight mount. Rear sight base scavenged from a CVA, and I can't remember where I got the peep insert, might have been an H&R. Had to add some extra height to the front blade to make it work.
And before anyone complains about hacking up a collectible: This was a "gunsmith special" from one of the online curio and relic places; front stock was badly broken, which is why I sporterized it.

Just fill the cheap ass stock! The stocks on all of them are trash. I would just swap out for a bell and Carlson.
I did that one time with some expanding foam. It was a Ram Line something or the other. It got rid of the cheap, hollow sound and didn't add much perceivable weight. It's not the worst idea.Just fill the cheap ass stock!

I love the scout rifle concept and one of the rifles I truly regret trading off was my Ruger Scout Rifle. The trigger spring was replaced, and that really all it needed IMO. With the can I have that can handle 308 pressure it was too long, but was fun to plunk around with. That Vortex optic sucked but that’s a simple enough change, just ran it with some Leupold quick detach rings so getting back to irons was quick. I’m gonna have to order another, though I’m really thinking about either the new ones offered in 450 Bushmaster or just getting the pretty Lipsey’s exclusive that’s walnut and stainless in 308. I will be getting another to replace the one I traded off like an idiot View attachment 9724337
Pics!I found a really nicely shaped uncle mikes synthetic stock and filled the forend with JB weld and removed the rubber grips. Then I textured the grips with JB weld and painted it. I’m not gunsmith but it turned out so nice. You cannot tell it’s a $50 uncle mikes 10/22 stock.
