The Forever Rifle: rOm's Scout Rifle

Always thought scout rifles were cool, mainly because I’m a sucker for a rifle with back up irons.
This is next on my list of rifles.

I'm usually pretty generous in my reviews of rifles, but I think you're better off with the Ruger than the Mossberg MVP. I didn't like the feel of the Mossy at all.

One thing to watch out for, when it comes to your "50 State Compliant Scout" is that if you have a threaded barrel, Connecticut (at least) considers that an assault weapon if you also have something scary like a detachable magazine, so you might want to think about a silencer solution that uses a pinned QD-type connection via a brake, and not a flash-hider.

Or just avoid Connecticut (which really, isn't an awful idea)

I would caution you about that rifle. I had one. For a short time. I sold it. It was very heavy compared to other box fed, bolt action rifles. It weighs almost 7 pounds naked. By the time I had a LER scope and rings on it, it was seriously front heavy. It shot well enough, it was just heavy...and the stock was less than accommodating. It was rough and felt, I don't know, unfinished.

Agreed 100%.

Good intel on both points. :yo:

Haven't you considered just trading one of your nicer ARs for a Ruger Gunsite Scout?

Just add a Ching Sling, some glass and you're done.
I had a Gunsite Scout. Didn't like it. It was heavy, too. Plus, it wasn't a project. I don't like turn-key. I felt like the iron sights were too beefy and there was a resonant metalic "ting" that went throughout the whole rifle when you shot it. It vibrated my molars. No other rifle I've ever shot did that.

Good question, though.

Weight isn’t really a factor for me. It’s comparable in weight to the Ruger Scout and Savage.
I’d also have the scope mounted like a normal rifle instead of farther forward so that should fix the front heaviness.
How was the bolt on it?
