The mighty Mopar 383

The 383 was a odd ball motor and I mean that in a good way. It always ran much better than one would think. If you were sleeping at the line in a 440 you would get beat bad. Only because it reved faster and got into it power band almost instantly like a small block but with big block HP. They would also run high speed cruising for a long distance. I had a 68 Dodge charger with a 72 400 ci engine ( a slight modded 383 engine ) but from the factory. That damn thing would run 120 mph, get there in a instant and had all sorts of power left. I also had a friend that I worked with in Maryland that had a built 383 and that car would scare the living crap out of you with brute power and top end. None of the new cars of the 80's would come close. Even the Buick Grand National got just put to shame once in a race when I was in the car. He got us off the line for just an instance. Then that 383 opened up and began to howl. It was all over but the crying! Truly one of the greats like the Hemi and 340 six pack. Engines that defied physics's if tinkered with.
You could beat an 80s car with a bicycle.......

The Iroc Z, Mustang GT and Trans AM GTA would top end at 150 but it took them a year to get there and half a day to do the quarter mile. I remember they had some decent low end torque but it dropped off steeply. I love the GM body styling back then particularly the Trans Am GTA. I would still like to have one of those and do a supercharged LSX motor. They would be a fun car to scout out a race or two.

I had to look those up. I didn't see how that puny 305 and 302 could do that. I actually had a 83 Mustang GT. I'd bark 3rd pretty easily. I drove a @ 82 Pace Car Edition. You get on it, it had two flaps that would open up on the top of the hood. It was pretty cool. After 81, I didn't care for the Trans Am anymore. I Knew someone that had one of the last Trans Ams. She liked it pretty well

My brother sold his Cuda to get an '88 fox body mustang GT. With the roush kit, it was super fast AND had A/C and a stereo that you could actually hear in the quiet interior of a new car. Trade-Offs...

I owned two of the last body style a Pewter 99 and a Sunset Orange Metallic 2002 Ram Air. I flew to Buffalo New York and bought it. It had 7,000 miles on it. This was 2009. As soon as I got home I pulled it into the garage and tore the motor apart. Then raided the Texas Speed parts shelf's online. Cam, headers, a complete top in build with CNC ported heads, Racetronix injectors, Yella Terra roller rockers, comp cams push rods and titanium spring caps. That car would pull 7,500 RPM and still have revs left. And for desert a 150 shot of NOS. That car would pull you into the back seat when you stomped it. What a feeling!😁.

When it comes to old school muscle Mopar is the only way to fly..

Had a 68.5 roadrunner w 383 / torque flight.
Really bulletproof. I drove it hard, wife drove it and all 3 of my sisters learned to drive on it.

Still running good when dad sold it for what we paid for it used 16 years later.
