Although I'm certain I maybe ineligible given my Mod status because people will claim "it's fixed!", but its definitely a sincere story that I want to share with the ODT family (yes I said family).

My wife's job moved to Atlanta a little over 2 years ago. After about 7 months of her training and me trying to sell our home in N.Ky unsuccessfully, I moved down to Atlanta to join her. My employer is incredible and wanted to retain me, so they are allowing me to work remote from Atlanta. This was great news for us, however moving to a foreign city and state that you really knew no one AND not having an office to go to that you can build local relationships, grab a beer after work, hang out on the weekends, etc. made life in Atlanta very, very tough and lonely.

So one day I thought, I want to get a new gun but I hate paying retail and I avoid Craig's List at all cost if possible. So I started googling and I stumbled across The ODT. I lurked for about a week and learned my way around, learned the lingo, learned how to interact with the community, the social rules, THE FORUM RULES, how to properly list an item, comment and PM offers, etc. and then I became a member and made my first deal with Harley1903. Harley1903 took a chance on me. Harley1903 is around middle Georgia (south of Atlanta) and I was up in Smyrna at the time. I was a Non-Supporter with 0 Feedback and only a handful of posts. I made the deal with Harley1903 on a nice Glock 27 and mailed him a check and he mailed me the Glock 27 at the same time. I received the Glock, it looked awesome and Harley1903 received my payment and left me my first iTrader feedback. And since I had such a great experience, I paid $15 and became a Supporter since I don't leach off of anyone and I believe in supporting people and organizations that support me and my ideals. The ODT does that far more than I ever anticipated.

From that moment on, I was HOOKED! I then began exploring the other parts of the community outside the classifieds and then the real treasure was found. You see, I was looking for a gun and found a gun community and that gun community turned into friends who I consider family. There are many here that I consider friends and family. There are so many here that I would give, offer, do, provide, extend, etc. whatever they need when in need.

So let me take a moment to sincerely thank everyone that has interacted with me on the forum, PM'd me, made me offers of items I was selling, entertained my offers (some borderline crazy), those that I have done deals with, those I've met at ODT Meet Ups and especially those who's friendship has since extended outside of the digital world of the ODT. I would name names, but I'm afraid I would miss one and the last thing I would want to do is to be a source of butthurt, plus some would think that I might show favoritism towards those, however if you could see their wrap sheet of infractions, I've handed out more to those that I consider close friends than those that are more outside that circle. (But I do it in a spirit of fairness and kindness and not as an authoritarian making a dick move.)

I want to express a special thanks to Okuma Steve for creating this community, continually investing money and development into this site and more importantly for being a good friend ( a freakin' busier than a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest friend, but a friend none the less). I also want to thank my Mod family. We've grown pretty tight and I consider each one of you a personal and dear friend.

Without the ODT, without YOU ALL here on the forum, living in Atlanta would be very lonely for me. Thank you, sincerely THANK YOU from the deepest, most sincerest part of my ever loving heart.

IN!

i think the best thing about the ODT is the people i've met and the friends i've made. i have met some of the best people and it would have never happened if i hadn't joined the ODT. BTW, the ODT has never sucked.

This place was a refuge for me for awhile during a tough time in my life. Goofing off on here with some great guys helped get me through that time. I have met some really good people through trades and made a couple of what will most likely be life long friends. This is like my "home base" on the Internet. You can get the answer to most any question you have (and not just firearm related) by making a post on here. There is a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips to be had here and the neat aspect of it is the common interest we share. Please keep it going always and THANKS!!!!!

I've been to two of the meet & greets where I got to meet a bunch of cool characters including ol' OS himself at the second one(oh hey Steve). Anyway, the first one was at Taco Mac in Newnan where nobody is supposed to carry weapons in but almost all of us were OC'ing Lol. Got to meet Soviet there, he is even cooler in person than online, he's been a tremendous help to in picking out an AK that I really like by the way. Ol' Scandmx was there too, some of y'all remember him, he got banned more than once and pissed off more people than anybody else as far as I know. He offered to buy me a drink so I took him up on it and ordered a double Jack and Coke that cost like $12.50 and he got really pissed about that, Lol! Finally met my neighbor from down the road about a mile, lftd&pwrstrok'n and his brother RHelton10 who are both super nice guys. Met 83rdrecon who has since moved back to the mother land(Louisiana, lol), let me tell ya that guy has some of the coolest toys a guy could want. Patronus was there too, contrary to popular belief he's a lot nicer than folks think. Both my sons and my wife came and had a pretty good time. There were a few other members there but I just can't recall who but they were all good folks and we all had a good time and the management didn't say squat about all the guns we had there.

Then there was the M&G at Jekyll & Hydes where OS came and gave away door prizes. Me and my wife both won a prize! I think that may be the ONLY time I ever won anything good, first I won an Uncle Mike's shoulder holster then my wife won an ODT hoodie. I gave one of my sons the holster cause he needed one and I kind of swiped the hoodie from my wife, well it was too big for her anyway. Lol, I finally met up with inkdaddy after we had been trying to meet up about half a dozen times but something always came up and kept us from meeting. Inkdaddy's son in law is a guy I've known since I was a young kid, all us neighborhood kids used to play baseball and football in his grandmothers pasture. Talk about it being a small world. Met Biker13 and JWC, damn that JWC has the sweetest S&W collection I've EVER seen! Biker13 really does look like Santa haha! Gotta thank HELVIS88 for hosting us too, Joe is a great guy who I knew before the ODT that I met through my son when he was still in the Air Force. All in all I've met a lot of great folks here on the ODT, some of them only through PM's or phone conversations asking what may be considered dumb questions but not one single person has EVER answered me like I did ask dumb questions. They all treated me with nothing but respect and kindness. There are a few members here I don't see eye to eye with and will probably never deal with but hey, it is what it is and I still haven't put anyone on the ignore list. The only other site I've joined is the Colt forum to ask some questions about Colts and I haven't visited that one in a while, I'm on the ODT too much. Lol! OS, you have the coolest place on the interwebs. When I first started hanging out here my wife asked me why I was spending so much time on the ODT, I turned it around on her and asked why she spent so much time on facebook. She said it's where she can talk to a lot of her friends at the same time. I told her the ODT was like facebook for men, haha! Of course that was before we started getting members who are ladys, shhhhh, don't tell my wife, she doesn't know women hang out here too. Lololol!

Steve, keep up the good work man. You and the mods are doing a helluva job here. Oh yeah, I really wanna win something on the next giveaway day, I haven't scored anything yet on the other ones! Lol! I know, gotta just keep trying. The other ones have been fun even though I didn't win, the anticipation made it all worth it and loads of fun.:p

I finally found a Colt 1911 that I have been wanting and couldn't find in the lgs. The transaction and the guy was great as was my other transactions I have done on here. Anyways the Colt cost me two pistols but in the long run I am still very happy and pleased. Also had a local guy hook me up with a baby bed and that was a blessing. So far great people and fun stuff to read. Glad I joined.

Met O'Steve handing out Cards at a Gun Show right after he started the ODT. Been here ever since. Just remember Steve, we all have Good days and Bad. Also "ya can't Please all the People all the time". Thank You for such a great site.

I was a GON transplant when ODT started, the rules on that site soured many of us! I have met some great folks on here and bought, traded into a few nice weapons, learned more than I thought I could and have enjoyed my daily dive into the site. Thanks for the good times!!!

I hardly ever post anything but I'm on here practically everyday. My neighbor got me addicted to this website. Everyones so friendly to eachother. how could anyone say that they hate this site? My guess is that they got addicted and it ruined them. In
