Sam's death & Maggie's pregnancy seems to have been the turning point. At this point, she has lost her daughter, killed a psychopathic child and then lost Sam, who was the recipient of some tough love from Carol. The scene where she left a cookie at his grave was very telling. One things for sure, don't mess with Maggie, or Carol will drop you. But I think both of them have been pushed further than they can handle and will probably sit out the upcoming showdown.
