So Rick is alive in mystery helicopter land and they are going to fast forward 10ish years? They went drastic...

I think because Rick and one of the main writers left the show! Drastic is what they are!!!

I have to admit, I didn't think that he went away in the hello. I watched the talking dead after show, and they said Rick wouldn't be coming back to the walking dead , but he'd be used in another type spin off shows, movie in the future. But I'm calling bs on that. There's no way they'd kept him alive if they didn't intend on using him again.

Apparently they are going to expand the world of TWD and part of that will be 3 separate 2 hour movies around rick since the helicopter took him away. They aren’t cancelling anything they are doubling down and growing the brand to show different people/stories in the apocalypse world. The head show runner Scott Gimple was promoted to creative director of the franchise and they are looking to blow this up worldwide. It may have run its course in the US as a hit cable show, but the rest of the world is an untapped market and they could make billions if they are successful in creating several shows based in different countries.
