There is a reason the Tums and Rolaids wrappers say to only take a few

I have an uncle with kidney stones

He has a home remedy he swears by

On the night of a full moon he takes an egg puts it in a glass jar o vinegar
Leaves it outside overnight
In the morning the shell should be dissolved leaving the clear membrane still holding the raw egg

He drinks the vinegar
Scrambles the egg n eats it

Says he will pass the stone in a day or two

Soooo.....this won't work if the moon isn't full?

All I heard was salmonella

Too much calcium. Causes calcium deposits on bones and such... After a certain age your body doesn't utilize calcium anymore.

heh? you gotta be joking.......or you seriously need to read more. lemme help

Calcium helps your body with:
•Building strong bones and teeth
•Clotting blood
•Sending and receiving nerve signals
•Squeezing and relaxing muscles
•Releasing hormones and other chemicals
•Keeping a normal heartbeat

Adults
•19 - 50 years: 1,000 mg/day
•50 - 70 years: ◦Men - 1,000 mg/day
◦Women - 1,200 mg/day

•Over 71 years - 1,200 mg/day

If your cool with your body breaking itself down to maintain this so be it but there are requirements

I was just at Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates 3 times in the last 6 months for stomach ulcers. I told the doctor (Bruce T. Kalmin M.D.) I was eating a family size container of Tums every week just to not feel like I was dying every second of every day. He stopped me in my tracks saying that as you age your body becomes less capable of actually using the calcium you intake. Makes sense considering your sweet little chart says to take more as you get older......... He said too much will cause deposits. Go argue with him since you must be a medical doctor... I'm no doctor and don't try to be. Just saying.

Here is his link so you two can have a sweet doctor knowledge-off!

And if your doing a container a week your ingesting......

Over 16,000 mg A DAY!!

Thats way way to much obviously from your gastro visit. A tums and a half would be about your daily dose of calcium.

Good thing you saw someone about it, thats a nasty habit to get stuck in those things are only good for occasional stuff. If your getting issues everyday you do need a specialist to sort it out.

And no im not a doctor.....i just stayed at a holiday inn express last night :D

All doctors arent perfect, you should verify as much as possible yourself so you know your getting adequate care (self education and awareness)

I recall hearing something about vitamin D being required to absorb or utilize calcium... I may be wrong.

OP - Have you looked into why you are eating Tums? Don't mask what could be a bigger problem.

I've had two large stones. Both were caused by dehydration while working. Now if I'm awake then I have a drink sitting next to me.

Both of mine hit me with no warning and were passed within the next few hours. I've been in bad car wrecks, been severely burned on my face and arm, had broken bones, BUT kidney stones are a pain all in their own. I drove like Bo Duke on the way to the ER. I ran every red light in town and jumped the RR tracks in downtown Winder. I thought I was dying. Morphine and several glasses of water did the trick. Plop! there it was. The doctor let me see it under a microscope. It looked like The Fortress of Solitude. Hard to believe anything like that could form inside my body.

bad times

There is a multitude of reasons;
I plan to go visit dr. W if this continues.
Thank You for Asking. I wanted to warn others, and got solid advice as well.
