Thinking about getting a German Shepherd

Thanks for all the replies they are really helpful. I'll PM Bear44 tonight or tomorrow. Anyone else have any GS specific tips?

I have a 6 month old Male German Shepherd pup that Bear44 is training for me and so far he is probably the most obedient dogs Ive ever had and sticks to me like glue. I believe Bear44 will actually go with you to help pick a pup out with no obligation to use him for training so that may be a good route for you. If you have any specific questions shoot me a PM and ill try and help you out :thumb:

great dogs, we have a girl that is 8 years old, and a male that is jet black and about to be 4. Our male is VERY protective, I was gone one weekend and apparently my sister & her boyfriend were having a argument at the house, our boy promptly giving that low intimidating growl. I was so proud of him. All in all great loyal pets, everytime I step outside my boy is right next to me. The shedding is terrible once it warms up after the north georgia winter, LOTS of brushing.

Here's a picture of me and my buddy riding home from work in the rain

Gunner, the GSD in my avatar, is the fourth we have raised from a pup. They are smart, loyal dogs that will protect you and yours, but are lovable pets as well. Buy from a reputable breeder who will certify the hips of both parents (not a guarantee, but lessons the odd for problems) and make sure you spend a lot of time socializing and training/playing with your new best friend. We bought Gunner from a guy whose web site is Schwarzer Hund.com. Good luck

PM ShepherdTrainer, his user name says it all. I've met his shepherd, very very big and badass.

Yep, and his Shepherd is very obedient. He will sit in the back of the truck while Jeff is at work with the tailgate down and not even try to get out. Jeff's a great guy too.

I agree with every one. Our GS is 2 she's jet black. She was fully house trained at 6 months. I'm sure you have found in your research in training to use single syllable word for commands. I trained my pup in German as all the commands are single syllable. She will do as commanded even in English now. They shed like crazzzzzzy. I can wear white any more lol
The most loyal protective dog I've ever raised. She does not bark unless there is something wrong. She also tells me when she needs to go out and take care of business. Awesome dogs. She is the first GS I've raised. I've had boxers ,perinies and labs. I will never hesitate to add another GS to the family.
