Thinking of switching to a double edge razor.

I looked at a few youtube videos and was surprised to see how many videos there really are on it.

This guy...geofatboy takes it to an art form that I doubt I'll ever have the patience for.

And his website cancels any thought of making it cheaper than the standard triple and up blade cartridges. They have some "safety" razors in the hundreds of dollars.

I bought this one from Ebay for 23 bucks.

I really want to try one of the two piece razors, a good quality one, mine are the "butterfly" type that open and close by turning the bottom of the handle. They are OLD.

I am what they call a "wet" shaver. It's a great way to shave. Better closer shave less aggravation. I switched 4 months ago and haven't looked back unless I am in a REAL bind for time. I use a Gillete safety razor from first quarter of 61. My biggest rec is to realize that it will take 15 minutes + to shave. It's meant to be done slower with more precision. It's MY time in the morning. Very nice ritual to have. As far as soap goes you want to focus on the glycerin content. That is why is missing from today's creams and canned gel bull shiz. If it begins to dry out re lather......or use more water in your brush to begin with.

sorry for block of text on phone:

I use a couple of old safety razors that belonged to my great grandfather. I just ordered some sample blades from amazon to see if there are some better ones out there. Now I want to find some good shaving soap/cream, the best I've used so far has been from walmart. Tried a more expensive brand a couple weeks ago and it sucked big time. Dried out on my face before I could finish the shave. I'm convinced that the safety razor is better than the newer multi blade stuff, no comparison. Google it and there are a lot of sites out there with good info.

I bought a puck of this at Piggly Wiggly for 99 cents and tax. Tried it yesterday morning with my Sensor XL and like it. Waiting to see how it goes with a DE when they come in. I also prefer to shave in the shower, it's extra steamy and easy to rinse, but that may change after I get the DE's in.

Also, growing a beard is not a real option... Last time I tried it I had people trying to rub burnt motor oil on my face. ;)

The "vintage" Gillette I ordered is a 3 piece. The silver one, pictured in the previous post, is 2 piece. And I really want one that butterflys open. Wass looking at the one Rick Harrison hawks on TV. They had one at WalMart for $19.98.

What was the name of the soap you bought? I'm going to order a bunch off of amazon to test, maybe some of that expensive stuff from the art of shaving.
