Thinking of switching to a double edge razor.

These are my really old razors, one is adjustable, the black one is everyday and the red handle was another of my great grandfathers razors. He was 106 when he passed away and never used anything but these safety razors until he couldn't shave on his own. The blades I got last week from amazon to "test".
I used to buy a tube of soap from a barber in Marietta and it was the best but I have no idea the name. A tube of about 10 bars.
I use a safety razor and a decent badger hair brush and have for a few years. Great shave and in the long run saves allot of money. I have several.
This Merkur was my first and my last.

I received a tub of Taylor of Bond shaving cream from my girlfriend as a gift and then just kept the tub for my Williams soap from CVS ($1.25). The one tub of cream last over a year and I still have not had to buy anymore Willliams than my original purchase. Way better shave and way less expensive in the long run than any "quadruple bladed" silliness. I sorta started collecting boars hair and badger hair brushes (what the hell). I will post up my collection later.

I do want a new good quality badger brush and a stand to hold it and the razor.
Yup. I've had a couple of cheap (WalMart) boar bristle brushes for a year or two(rarely use them since I've been using gel and the Sensor XL). But I'm looking at a couple of affordably priced badgers on Amazon. Is there really that much difference between boar and badger?
I don't know personally but I have heard that badger is much better opps
They both work fine but you will definitely notice a softer, smoother application with the badger hair (as well as less soap). If you are making an initial purchase I would go badger. LOL More of a "first world" comfort. I save my boars hair brushes in my go kit/travel bag.
Oh and don't buy Merkur blades the ones at the drug store are better in most folks opinion that use safety razors. (and cheaper)
I would find some good blades at CVS and keep those bad boys. They never wear out, just clean them up and roll. If they are the right kind the value goes up.
