How did this taste? Reason I ask is the tail looks wonky as in it may have been diseased?

that's the way they look when in the stock pin...they release a few big ones every once in a while...I caught one, many years ago, just below the dam....came out of the stock tanks...IF they are actually "hold overs" the meat will be somewhat pink

Tasted fine. As already mentioned they get like that from being in those holding tanks.
