I have had several people ask if I could add removable chokes to a shotgun with fixed chokes. Due to the cost of tooling, I had put this idea off. I have been thinking about this for about two years and since about 80% of our shooting is clay shooting, I have decided to try it. I went ahead and ordered my first reamer and tap to do 12-gauge Rem chokes and started with an old Remington 1100 cut off barrel that I had left over from another project. I went to gun club and put 5 rounds through it this morning with no issues. I have added some pictures below. I am planning on purchasing more...
I have started buying some tooling for this, but as already said we need to measure and check barrel to make sure it can be done. We also need to talk. If I can help give me a call. PM me for contact information.
What make and model are you wanting to thread for chokes?
In some cases it may be more cost effective to buy a replacement barrel than adding choke tubes.
For inexpensive models, it could be cheaper to sell and buy one with factory threaded chokes.
Briley is well known, but often the most expensive.
