I've heard the phrase, a 1911 is like a Formula 1 car, a (insert polywunder pistol here) is like a Toyota Camry. It may not be the best simile ever but it makes the point. If I was outfitting a department, I'd go with a polymer pistol in a heartbeat.I copied that exact quote and was about to post it...I think that is spot on. 1911's are not for everybody. Unfortunately people who don't know how to properly maintain their 1911's and treat them like modern polymer guns often have malfunctions and that's all you hear about. I have a Kimber TLE II that literally has had over 10,000 rounds through it and never had one malfunction. I have also had a few 1911's that needed some minor tuning. Once they were tuned up they ran like a top.
