Time to trade in your 1911s?

Yeah, maybe a Sig P220?

*Edit, I guess the P220 doesn't have a manual safety, scratch that....

Yeah, I thought about the p220 but I think they only have the decocker like on the p226 and p229. I can't see the army going without some sort of frame safety unless they change policies. Dont they require sidearms to be carried condition 3? As in unchambered with hammer down and safety on? When you stoop to the lowest common denominator it limits possibilities lol

LOL. Millions of dollars poured into research and real life doesnt mean anything here. Move along folks.

Capacity better follow up shots greater velocity. Those mean nothing to you. Ok got it.

Dude, for us civilians in real life your points are perfectly valid. But when it comes to FMJ, I dare you to find combat vets from Iraq and Afghanistan that are pleased with the 9mms performance. One of my buddies who served in Iraq was clearing a room and had a malfunction in his m4...he pulled his m9 and had to use it on an insurgent who was literally across the room for him. He lit him up with 5 or 6 rounds center mass and the dude didn't go down until someone put a 5.56 in his head. Turns out the locals were all hopped up on some kind of drug and wasn't feeling the pain. Maybe the .45 wouldn't have put him down on the first shot but I don't believe it would have been just as bad as the 9mm.

NGIB - way to prove me wrong lol. The p220 is an excellent platform but doesn't really offer many advantages over the 1911....similar size, weight and capacity. Again....for the purposes of a combat pistol with what the military seems to use as requirements

I love a SIG P220. But then I am a fan of DA/SA also.
1911 still feels better and shoots better than any of my old 220's but not by much.

Dude, the only reason that holds true is because as you said its fmj. I never said anything about military applications

I have shot 1911s for a long long time and LES-BEARS do not malfuntion if one ever does please prove me wrong also just got a STI and 500 rounds and not one hic-up. I will buy a better gun when someone makes a better platform.

Quick google search says otherwise....http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=239126

you would rather our boys from wwi wwii have a 1911 as opposed to modern day polymer framed pistol?

Better platforms are already out there. Te 1911 had its time and is a great platform there are just better more reliable firearms on the market now.

1911's are fun guns. They're fun to take to the range. Aside from that, they need to stay in the safe.
