To those of you that have been layed off or just fired.......

Considered going back to school? even if part time there are programs that help pay for it and sometimes offer a stippen for living expenses. there are grants and scholarships available also and perhaps part time work can be found while schooling. emploryers are more ready to take on someone part time before they are full time. The advice of jsquared is really good and can be included with the return to school idea since that is the best source for changing a career.

Good luck to you and God bless.

I know everyone is going to laugh at this but, go sell cars. It is a job for someone who likes to talk. You dont do anything and will get at least minimum wage. In 3 months you will have insurance. I did this through college, you can make 3k a month easy if you just talk to people and show them a car within their means and dont make them feel stupid or taken advantage of. Once you get a pitch then you will make more. I was able to make a good living. You should dress nice walk in with confidence, have a pen and pad of paper. Explain that you are there to do one thing and that is make money. You should be able to get a job within the day. Not everyone can hack a commission sales job so they are always highering. If I were to be laid off tomorrow from my current job I would go back in a heart beat. I would go to scott evans dodge tomorrow dressed to impress and explain to him that you need money and lots of it as quick as possible. I bet you can get on there

Get connected with a staffing or temp agency. My sister works as a staffer in one of these companies and has TROUBLE finding people willing to work temp jobs. Granted many of these people realize that unemployment pays more than the jobs offered, but these opportunities can lead to more work opportunities. Seriously though even the better paying jobs she has to offer have terrible candidates, so if you can read, have a semblance of an idea about customer service, and are willing to apply then people like her can find you a job fit to your skills. I might post up her info for those looking for jobs, PM me if your seriously interested. BTW she's located in Atlanta but staffs for companies all over the metro Atl area.

For those interested in finding a job.

Google Nestle Purina, fairburn GA

they are hiring. start out at 15 an hour, up to 21 an hour after 90 days.

I posted this on the other job thread so I'll copy it here also.

Southern co is putting in two new reactors at plant votgle, it is one of the largest construction projects currently underway in the nation right now. Don't just look at the southern co for jobs there.

Shaw is the construction manager for the project, they had a ton of jobs posted last month. There are also a lot of other contractors and subcontractors listing jobs for the project.

Im in the same boat right now. Luckily I still have a job for a small company that I have been working at for the last 10 years but my hours are very very scarce. At least being in school means I dont have many bills. The way I look at it is that 10yrs from now the recession will probably be over and I will still be alive somewhere. I just have to ride it out until then.
