Tomorrow, when the war began aka Aussie Red Dawn

The Aussies have the Second highest paid professional military in the world. Their training and equipment is every bit as good as ours. They have a large percentage of career NCOs (one of the best measures of quality) and their officers are good. They are building their forces now as a deterrent to others in the region.

For those who are wondering as far as professional Military pay is concerned:

1. Canada
2. Australia
3. US

In Red Storm Rising (Tom Clancy, early 80's) he used the same scenario for the USSR taking over Iceland, i.e. large civilian(?) ships rolling off mechanized brigades while airborne took the airports.

Hopefully this won't sidetrack the thread too bad, but has anyone else seen the new Red Dawn? It kicks butt over the original !!!

I thought it was better than the original too.

I also agree with a previous post, looks like there would be plenty of enfields. A lot of "shooters" and collectors in australia have converted those rifles to modern calibers.

I saw that one and liked it, however, was very dissapointed that I didn't see a single SMLE anywhere in the movie!!

I woulda thought some farmer would have one sitting around somewhere... considering the history of Australians and SMLE's...

I think the government had a big buy back on alot of the guns to get them off the street. They may have destroyed them to prevent any violence or mayham from starting. :mmph: Politicians at work. Thank goodness our founders put it in our constitution, or it would have happened here a long time ago.

This movie is actually based on a book, and has a whole series of books after it. Seven or eight I think. I read them recently. It was a good series. The movie is very close to the book. James Marsden I believe is the name of the author.

Why did they need guns? He sure didn't.
