So I've got an itch to buy a Sig for concealed carry. I've been looking at either the 229 Elite Stainless or the P220 Elite Carry Stainless. I really like the stainless with the rosewood on both of them. I normally carry my Glock 19, but just want to try something different. The P220 would be my first .45, but the P229 would mean I wouldn't have to buy another caliber of ammo.

Any deciding factors? From what I can tell, they are just about the same exact guns. Almost the same specs. I'm planning on using it for an everyday carry.

More capacity in the 229 in a smaller caliber.

Not trying to start a caliber war, but I'll take more rounds of Hornady critical defense in 9mm for my uses.

I thought the 220 was a little narrower than the 229. 229 is actually a little wider than my 226 is, though it is shorter. I have no problems carrying my 226. Excellent shooting guns, but the take up (that is what its called right? the dead space in the trigger before you feel it) takes some getting used to

He is correct I have had had both as well, the 229 is a bit fatter but not that bad, biggest question is what is YOUR opinion of .45 vs 9mm and how well do you group? do you need the extra rounds

If you want 45, look into the P227. It's a double stack 45 with 10 round magazines. I just got mine and love it. The P227 carry has the rail as well. I got the P227 SAS Gen2 so I could get it without the rail.

I was just looking at the specs on the P227 carry and the P229 and the length and width are the same. Height is .1 inch more in the P227 and it weighs .9 oz more. Big difference is 10+1 in 45 or 15+1 in 9MM

SIG M11-A1.
Basically a 9mm P229 without the rail. Comes with night sites and SRT. Holds 15 rounds of ammo per mag.
OUTSTANDING pistol.

*Has the phosphate coated internals like the MK25 Navy P226 - if that matters.
