Watched a really cool professional scientific video on deer vision and UV light and how they see on the spectrum.
So I took a black light to ALL my hunting clothes and was blown away at how they flashed.
Anything with white in it shows up like mad and some material simply
Flashes and glows like a blue Christmas tree…..no wonder sometimes deer just look at you when you the wind is in your favor and your camo blends in so nice to your surroundings.
To the deer you stand out like a glowing blue blob.
One entire outfit I had looked like a glowing blue jump suit.
Some of my camo was completely dead under UV.
I was able to put together a gaiter, warm hat, face mask, gloves and a leafy woodland outfit that my Wife found me at a thrift shop a couple years ago used that I never tried out.
Turns out it was the only outfit that did not flash at all under UV.
Totally Made me rethink my entire set up and I’m just wondering how many deer totally avoided the glowing blue blob in the tree from way off without me even noticing them.
Sure I’ve killed plenty of deer with these outfits but most likely cause they never looked up.
Pretty much any cheap camo from wal mart is going to flash but it was a good feeling to find a good complete outfit that did not flash.
Some quality stuff I got from Cabelas flashed and everything I had that had any white in it flashed so I’m really glad I watched that video and I’m curious to see If I have more deer activity as a result.
Of course it’s late in the season but still have some time to put it to the test with a complete UV free “dead” outfit.

Learn something every day.

Oh-the black light I used was a hand held model called the “Stink finder” which is a tool used in sterile environments to find poop
And other gross things that only show up under UV light when you “think” you cleaned the bathroom or other areas.

This was a thing a couple of decades ago. Most laundry detergent has some kind of brightener in it to make the clothes look better. Unfortunately, it also creates a huge glow in UV. Use cloths soap that is specifically meant for hunting clothes. Like scent eliminator detergent. I'm sure that some camo glows straight from the manufacturer and even clothes that were simply washed in the wrong detergent will take several washing to eliminate the glow if you can at all.

Just hunt. And enjoy your time hunting. It isn't splitting the atom. Deer move to eat, to bed, to escape, to mate. Be there when they move and smile. Sounds like you have filled your freezer plenty of times. Don't know that you need to rethink what has worked for you at this point in your game. Scent blockers, scent control, movement hiders, energy hiders, hiding 30 feet up in a tree, baiting, etc... throw yourself a curveball. Next hunt wear your jeans and thermal and plaid coat. Smile when you take that photo next to the deer you killed. Humans have long killed deer way before the hunting marketing became a billion dollar gimmick. 👍👍
