With my eyes going it's probably too far for me drive. I've been looking into taking the train but all my research makes it look like Amtrak is run like MARTA with the same type of people.
I considered the train out of Chicago but really want to see the oregon trail route prob ly get on at Independence and start there. I’m also getting to an age that I worry about a drive this long. Need to get it done soon.
Sounds like you need to plan a trip for as long as it will take to do all you want to do. Because you may not make out again. That's what I did. I've been a few times though out my life. And yes, it was worth it

Nothing, and I mean nothing compares to the view of the Grand Tetons. Someone mentioned Cody, WY above. If I could convince the wife, I'd move there in a heartbeat. Beautiful area. Yellowstone. Arches. Moab. All worthwhile.
I got to get a map and plot these places to see which ones i can get to. Thanks i will add these locations.
