trying to get a shed/carport built

unfortunately you are gonna need to dig a little. in many cases there are old rules that the bureaucrats forget to remove..
Stockbridge was a farming community. look and see if there is a loophole... in my county i can build without a permit up to 1400 sq feet as long as there is no power. other way is to ask if there is a $200 permit you can get to allow you to build... many times that permit paid in cash is all it takes.... especially in Henry County...

The “dolar” power… haha 😂

yeah well there is no HOH. Its not the county, but the city. The lady we have being dealing with is 2nd in command with P&Z. At first she said I needed a new survey and a site plan. Then said No metal buildings. Even went as far as sending a paper stating no roofing material can be used other than wooden shakes or asphalt shingles and anything else would be left up to the Directors option. (WTF does that mean)
Getting a petition signed from the 10 houses on the street stating they don't mind if we build it. I don't know if that will help. I regret even attempting to do it the right way.
The Ecuadorians behind me in the last year parked a rv and set it up as a grow house then built about a 400sf metal building both within 8 ft of property line. (im sure no permit)
I was just curious what a fine would be for a 800sf shed. (no power water or slab) or if anyone here had to pay for such fine.

Almost made my mind up to tell the company to build it anyhow.... If I didn't have my 84yo Pops, my niece and her family, my older brother and a cousin on the same street(and my wifes 90&91 yo parents right down the road)
Id pack up from this ****hole.
We replaced an HVAC system for a Latino family in Forest Park about two months ago, and I noticed they built a pretty good size back patio cover and a shed on the very far back of their lot/property. They told me that an old lady from planning & zoning walked by, stopped at their house, wrote a citation and a $1,500.00 fine plus a 30 days notice for them to have everything teared down, OR face another fine of the same amount, maybe higher.:mod::mod::noidea::nod::ranger:

we have already paid for the permit($250) passed thru the several stage's then got the "No' from planning and zoning. No refunds on permits. I would pay the one time fine but if they kept coming back :mad2: Im sure their case came from a complaining neighbor. All mine are on board with me.

paid for the permit with no refunds..... $250. i think the biggest problem is the carpetbaggers running/ruining the city.

I'm trying to get a 32x28 monitor style building. Dealing with the place in Jackson and they have been good so far. I live in the city of Stockbridge. Paid for a permit so was trying to do the 'right' thing. It's going over a bed of gravel. Metal roof. 3 sides and front open. Tons of emails back and forth with planning an zoning. Cleared everything until it got to them. So much crap saying we would have to have a extension from current driveway to it. That's out of the question. Told them the lower drive(gravel) is where it will be placed.(they say im out of compliance with a 2nd drive that's been there for 32 years.)
Anyone ever put up something like that and had the code people flag it or be told to take it down? I'm curious what the fine would be?
For the record, I live on a street with 75% metal carport/pole barn type buildings. Non HoA. Meth trailerpark behind me.
Mostly venting but I would listen to opinions. thanks
Your first mistake was asking permission.

that was for the county... the "$200" permit is for the one giving you crap... turns out, it may not be on the books, but that permit that you dont get a receipt for.. often times clears the red tape... he is probably dead now so its ok to out him... but a guy named Roy that worked for Henry county back in the late 80's wrote in the book in pen, stuff that needed a permit...
turns out all that was needed was for my parents to "buy" the proper undocumented permit...

This is why I laugh on the inside when folks talk about "their property" or "their house."
All part of the great “freedom” illusion that Americans have bought into. You lease your house and land from the county or city government and in turn they lease it from the state government who leases it from the federal government. Don’t pay your lease (taxes) and see how fast they take it back.
