I once belonged to a union and served my apprenticeship through them. If you were friends or related to any of the business agents or manager it's was great cause you'd never be out of a job. I wasn't fortunate to be either so i had to go to the bottom of the list if i was laid off and if the list was a long one, i'd be outta work for a month sometimes. What i really didn't like about the union is when they insisted that i vote for their choice of political candidates or i'd be on the list a long time....of course i never did and finally got me a job with the county and stayed there until i got hurt.

Complete crock. Helpful in the time of the Industrial Revolution, but now have out lived their purpose. They create higher prices for goods under the guise of equity and allow underskilled/negligent/apathetic/etc workers to prosper.
