Updated with pictures Bobtail. Who's done one on a aluminum 1911 frame?

First one I did took a few hours, working slow. Ive done three total, last one took about 1.5. Not including refinish. That will be the biggest part. Would be best to CeraKote the frame when you are done, so another hour or so...

The finish is a Robar finish. It's feels like ceracoat but is more glossy. I have never worked with it before so I am not sure if it will flake easy. If it doesn't I'd just polish the surface to blend with the housing.

I'd rather use a drill press for the holes. I don't currently have a drill press that's worth a damn to use. I'm pretty well experienced with 1911's. If done trigger jobs fit thumb safeties Hammer and sear. I've done damn near everything but bobtail one. I appreciate the I sight so far. What did you use to remove the excess frame

Yes you absolutely need a drill press! You clamp the bobtail fixture in the press, then slide the frame on the fixture and drill, I don't think you could do it without a decent drill press.
I use a pneumatic 90 deg grinder with a cutoff wheel to cut the frame within 1/16" or so of where I want it then switch to files. If your careful, your plan might work and just polish the edges.

Here is one I helped a friend with, kinda similar to what you are doing, but we blued it after...

That looks awesome. I'm stoked I can't wait to get the parts. I polished the safety and the Robar finish seems to hold up to heat very well. So I think I am going to do as planned and polish. That is of course unless the finish gets screwed up

Looking forward to seeing the progress. I am going to do the same to my Kimber CDP Pro but I think I will refinish it with Cerakote.
