UPS and I had a weird talk

I'm going to try to explain this. UPS tracks every driver every minute of everyday. When your driver "misdelivered" your package he was tracked. Your drivers DIAD "dropped a pin" where the driver left the package.

Box gets scanned as it leaves the truck, and they cross reference that with GPS location that shows the truck was at the wrong spot. Those guys are wired seven ways from Sunday.

But yet they still manage to screw it up.

I had a UPS guy drop a box just last week on my day off. Got to the door and picked it up before he got to the end of the drive way. An't no way there was a set of brake pads in there and looked at the address and sure enough it was an address 3 or 4 houses down. Flagged him down and he went back into the truck and not only got MY correct package, he also had one for my wife too.

Sigh of the times. American corporations are putting all of the focus and investments in technologies designed to replace good capable (but expensive) workers, with low pay idiots. But they don't realize/care that there is nothing idiot-proof.

I blame their HR. I applied for one of their seasonal stocking jobs last year to give me some night exercise and gun money for Christmas. Took forever to hear back from them but the HR lady called me on a Sunday morning wanting me to come in Monday. Of course I keep my phone off Sunday and called back Monday to nothing. Called a couple of more times and also emailed her from an email address she had used a few months prior, and she becomes enraged (in email) that I emailed her "personal address". That and the job was filled, and never heard back from them again.

I'd say for a position that, from the group consultation, was "direly needed", waiting several months between the consultation/meeting only call someone on a Sunday morning (in the Southeast of all areas) isn't exactly the best way of getting help. Also how "we'll call everyone within 1-2 weeks" turns into closer to three months. Obtaining good help starts from the top, and if HR doesn't give a ****, they won't invest the time and energy to hire decent people.

USPS is the same way. Local service is "interesting" enough that I drive an extra 5-6 minutes into Alabama to drop off most of my eBay outgoing there instead. For the amount of money they pay per hour plus benefits, you'd think they would attract and hire only qualified people, but government jobs don't play by those rules.

The system doesn't always work, though. I was waiting for a golf club a couple of years ago; and checking the tracking number about every thirty minutes, because I wanted to go play as soon as it was delivered.

All of a sudden, the tracking number shows that the package was delivered seven minutes ago. I went outside; and no package was there. I checked the front porch first; and then the garage door...no package either place. I was standing in the driveway trying to call UPS on my cell phone when the big brown truck rolled up. I told the driver what had happened; and he just laughed. He said he only had three packages in my subdivision; so he just scanned them all at the first stop.

So much for GPS tracking.

Like I said, if they make something idiot proof, they will hire a better idiot.

I was expecting a package yesterday from FedEx. Heard the truck pull up and went out to get it and the box was from Sumitt Racing, not ammo that I was expecting. Checked the address and it was the guy down the road. I took it to his house and saw my ammo on his porch. I just exchanged boxes and told him about it that evening. Called FedEx and they didn't seem surprised.

Everyone makes mistakes. I'm sure your driver didn't deliver your package to the wrong house on purpose. Once a Driver Follow Up(DFU) is generated EVERY DRIVER has to make 3 attempts make contact with customer and correct the situation.

So my tracking told me my package had been left on my porch. My wife works from home so no big deal. I get home no box. So I call up UPS they told me they would look into it and took my name and number. I get a call back from a local number the nice girl on the phone told me it was delivered to the wrong house and gave me the address of the porch it was left on. So I ask her how she knows the address it was left at. She couldn't come up with a answer for me but told me I would get it tomorrow as soon as the driver went back and picked it up to bring to me. So I asked if they received a call saying they got a box that wasn't for them. She still had no answer.

So how did they get an address to the wrong house.

It's easy to deliver to the wrong house. More than likely your driver was out of your area and could not back track to your neighborhood.
Hopefully your neighbor will be honest and bring your package to you once they realize that it's not theirs or you went over to the house that your package was delivered to and retrieved your package. Interesting story but it happens. IF you don't receive your package today then you may want to do a (DFU)
