Do you you know why I NEVER lost a DUI case back in the day? Because the difference between less safe DUI, and less safe taxi ride was the fine line that required true judgement. Really, you want my opinion onDUIs ? Ok here it is. Look at the crime statistics for any college town in America. I think we can all agree that college kids drink? Compare that to any similar size town DUI statistic. Not image you had a kid getting ready to go to college and your a responsible parent. You look up the crime statistics. Would you want to know that after 11 pm 60% of vehicles on the road are DUIs? Is it about money? Sure it is, a school shooting happens and they want to ban guns, 15000 people a year are murdered by drunk and what? Shut down bars? Limit drinks? Have a cop sit outside with a breathalyzer, which is illegal to testify in court about. Cops for the most part do their best, some don't some cant, some never will. But at the end of the day I feel better knowing there's a few that do care out there.

Just to piss you off I'll throw this out omega. I worked part time at a small small dept on my off weekends. It was me, my 78 was county 15 min away if I was lucky. Major road between a party town and nothing. I stopped so many cars and locked up so many drunks they started driving around the city limits to keep from coming by me! Make me feel like a hero, no but made my citizens feel safe. And that's what being a cop is about.

Depends on the scope of the "roadblock" in ga you are required to provide identification when asked by a Leo. Law, doesn't matter what your opinion. Don't like it call your congressman. In the state of ga the privilege to drive on the roadway is just that. That's why you must be licensed and have a proper vehicle, ins, etc. it is not a right like some have said. If you think it is then why do you have a drivers license. Which also isn't your. It is state property and can be seized without a warrant at any time by a leo.

Is it in convienient to go through them sure, but I've been to Iraq, and Afghanistan , and half a dozen other countries where a roadblock involves tanks, apcs, and machine gun nests. Where the hell do you guys live that a license check is so horrible? Pull up hand him your info, your not required to answer any questions. Only provide identification. Can they search no, hell no, get a dog, got a time limit from time of stop. Get a warrant or release me. They can't even ask to search while they are standing there with your license in hand. Next time ask if they know what 18USC 242 is? Bet their attitude changes.


99% of people out there have no issues, no problems with leo encounters. But I'm sure you have a friend who has a friend who got a ticket for 3-4 over. Bull**** no they didn't. Prove it. Ga speed code says ALL Leo agencies must give 10 over before a caution can be issued with several exceptions
1. Troopers- their tickets go to the locality of the issuance. So all the talk of a quota is stupid
2. Construction zone
3. School zone
4. Historic districts like down town most of ga.

I dont enjoy being stopped for doing absolutely nothing wrong, so I somehow hate LEO's??? Many in my family are FOP and I have the utmost respect for them and all other law abiding LEO's. Notice I never refer to them with the somewhat derogatory term of cop, as they are law enforcement officers.

Well said........... 90% of cops take there profession as they should. All the talk about the 10 percenters is what makes the other 90 look bad. I am no cop non in my family but I do know a few , even still they have a job to do and I give them the respect they deserve for what they do. I was recently pulled over for speeding (&@^!$@^) but he was cool doing his JOB! He seen my gun stickers and asked about a firearm I say yes and he replies with "I am a pro 2A just stay in the truck for me". I say yes sir he rights me a ticket and offers me good advice and off we go.

So...someone decides to drink and then drive and it is the officer that "ruins" their night when they catch them breaking the law?

This has always been a debated topic with LEO's in my circles. I'm openly against random road blocks as I've done nothing wrong to be stopped. I always hear the same worn out line about the DUI could have been the one to kill your family, how would you feel then.

Operating a motor vehicle is not a right, it's a privilege and furthermore the motor vehicle must be insured and registered. You choose to travel via an automobile, this is an inherent risk.

It absolutely kills me that people (DTK not at you personally) rail on and on about "rights". My rights begin where your end. I have the right to walk my daughters down the aisle, and to grow old with my wife. Safety checks are performed to curb the chances of people keeping this from happening.
