Where do you get the 1/20 figure?
I guarantee that if you polled inmates and they were 100% TRUTHFUL, you'd find that many got beat black and blue. Ever heard the old country song "Mama Tried" or how about 2Pac "Dear Mama"? Criminal Behavior can't just be summed up with "Well if they had got their butts beat more often then they would be compliant upstanding citizens."

Yeah same here.
The opperative words were that they were "100% truthful" about their upbringing. Their claims of guilt or innocence wouldn't matter anyway.
I apologize MMatt. I misunderstood your post regarding the beating black and blue. I thought you were referring to those incarcerated were beaten black and blue by the Law Enforcement Officers since the thread is about why "CITIZENS don't like cops". I have re-read the context of your reply and see you were referring to their parents beating them.
Never ceases to amaze me how many cops still justify this type of ****, because, "you didn't see what happened before the clip",. . . . .it doesn't matter, you are NOT the judge, jury and executioner. File more charges if you have to, but leave the ass whippin' to the judge or jury.
