We haven't had a good TEOTWAWKI thread in a while.

Welp barring that you live in a big city I think bugging out is a dumb idea. Why make yourself a refugee right off the bat? Instead of shooting something everyday and wasting ammo, drawing unneeded attention..why not trap? Snares are not that difficult to make, Tractor supply has live animal traps 2 in a set for about $35 and they work well! Plus dont overlook the handiness of the large rat traps. For my nicotine fix I have a couple of big bags of shredded tobacco that you can get for about $8 each. Get a good pipe and your set! Plus harvest rabbit tobacco as there are actually many health benefits to go along with it.

What about motor oil for the firearms???

You need to bug out of a big city as fast as you possibly can. Typical food supplies in a city will only feed the population for a few days without resupply. Water can become critical even more quickly. Anyone that lives in the city and is serious about survival needs to have a place to go. Even if it's just a random spot in the country that you have secreted equipment and supplies. That's much better than sitting around in a city and waiting for things to go to hell. Which they will VERY quickly. Even if you have supplies at a city location, there are going to be a LOT of very hungry people that will want those supplies very badly.

You will also need to get into a self sustaining situation if the SHTF will have long term effects. No matter how many supplies you have gathered beforehand, sooner or later they are going to run out. Becoming self sustaining is going to be impossible in a city.

My wife & I won't survive long without certain meds anyway so I'm not making any big plans. I keep some smokes on hand and enough adult beverage to numb the pain with, got food, water, ammo and fire making materials & plenty of oil so I'm good to go for ever how long the meds last. Just be sure if you come by the house to visit or need something to announce yourself so I'll know who you are, otherwise you won't be having a pleasant day, this I will guarantee.

We are in total agreement Bear, thats why I said barring that you live in the city...unless you live in the city would have been a better choice of words. Im in the country and still have a couple of back up locations, but I'm not running for them until I feel its necessary.

Oops, my bad. Missed that word "barring".

Am I prepared to survive for a few weeks? Yes.
Am I prepared to survive for a few months? Probably.
Am I prepared to survive for a few years? Not likely.
Am I prepared to survive indefinitely? Definitely not.

But I'm working on it.

Our plan is to bug in. Bugging out is not a viable choice based on several personal factors. And if it gets to the point of a forced bug out, life probably won't be worth living much longer anyway.

We will bug in. Have a bit of food stocked up, lots of ammo, big gardens, canning experience, wood stove, propane generator for the well, and about to set up for chickens and rabbits. We need to meet some like minded southside people.

A twig is weak but bunch them together and they become strong.

Regardless of your preps, your 10k round ammo bunkers, your tacticool rifle, without practice and people who care for your well being your going to be easy prey.

Think about this scenario for a moment, take someone recently discharged from the USMC who hasn't prepped he will become a tribal warlord (faster if he is charismatic) hunting preppers for their supplies. This makes a dangerous scenario for both bug in and bug out decisions. If your on the road yes you are more exposed...but my question is why in the hell would you ever follow a road/trail/footpath in a situation where everyone is on foot? Secondly what makes you think your going to be able to bug out to your mountain retreat when you don't know any of the locals that live there? You think just because you say you own a house up the road they are going to let you in? And why would you make the journey unless you had something to get too at that house?

The best thing for any situation like this is knowledge and team work.....because without a team you are living a sad existence.

well seeing what has been happening the last few months . i have already bugged out ....sort of i bought 5 acres of remote land i have since moved onto said land. purchased mobile home. and large building for preps. and started building an underground shelter. long drive to work but finally away from the daily crime. dont worry about my home being broken into when im not there. so i consider myself bugged out.

True. I'll be a "local" and the one way road into this community will be sealed off and guarded. Better get to know us. Just saying.........
