Fellow members; I know there are a lot of member that knows a lot about different fire arms and I wanted to ask about a weatherby vanguard 30.06 I recently purchased off here. It does have the wood stock and seems to be very dependable; just wanted to see if anyone knows how dependable they are,when they were made?Thanks in advance for any information.

I've had 2 weatherby vanguard's. Regret selling them both. A bit on the heavy side but very accurate, smooth bolts and nice triggers. They were pretty to look at too
I can't tell anything about the newer S2 version of the Vanguard but I have an older one that's the most accurate rifle I have ever shot and my favorite! You can call Weatherby customer service for the age of your rifle, just give them the serial number and they will be able to tell you right away.

The Vanguard is a very nice rifle for the money. Weatherby actually started producing them as a "B" quality rifle compared to their Mark V, but they became so popular that they have become the backbone of the company and they have greatly expanded on what was supposed to be a cheap rifle with few options. It was almost an unintended success.
I have owned a couple of them, and I must say after replacing the trigger with a Timney(the one's I had were crap), they were some of the most accurate rifles I owned. I currently own a Howa 308WIN that will drive tacks, which as others have said is the same basic thing, parts will interchange on each. Dang good rifle.
