Went to rehab, and now they have my gun and won't give it back.

Congratulations on knowing when you needed to go and ask for help. I would definitely NOT bring the police into this (and if you have a CCL, you may have issues at renewal time depending on your state laws so be sure to read up on them).

Just My Opinion: Wait until you have a real friend with you and then go to pick it up. If you have just a random person, I would think that the facility would be concerned on why you are going to such elaborate means to get your gun back asap. When you have your buddy lined up, call ahead and tell the facility that your friend and you are coming to pick up your possession.

I am shocked that people are volunteering to go with someone that they do not know and helping them get their gun from the rehab center that they were just released from. Unless you know this person very well you have no business doing such a thing. Come on people, think!

Completely insane....and it has nothing to do with the guy in treatment, I know dozens of guys that went this route and are kick ass gunmen that make a living doing it....but this is a matter between family and long time friends. I'm betting if it's not a relative they say "pound sand" anyway.

Good luck in your recovery, at this point it has nothing to do with your weapons possession......wait and have a friend that knows you or a family member go pick that up.

ETA: and it does not matter if it is a fellow traveler that sends you a PM....get an existing friend or relative, be smart.

I won't offer to help you get your gun back without knowing you, but if you are serious about maintaining your sobriety let me know and we can talk and/or check out a local meeting. One day at a time my man....Stan

Congratulations on starting your life back after the divorce. I always thought that if you checked yourself into something like this you could exit on your own free will anytime. but I'm sure something in the paperwork was overlooked. the depression part is there reasoning for keeping it I'm sure. to avoid any unnecessary out of the new budget expenses and more trouble. I would just get a friend or family member to get it. two hour drive picking up your Dad and spending time together would be the best I think.
