The rust in the door frame pinch welds would be an issue and I would bet the rockers and cab corners are shot. I would offer 3k. Just know if you want it to be a nice ride, you will spend a whole lot more money and time

I know about time and money on rides. Been working on my Brother’s 84 4runner for a little over a year now. Got lucky on the body and paint work, but finding parts for an 84 4runner is a lot harder than a chevy.

About 8 years ago we paid $2,200 for a rust free shortbeds Stepside 4wd 4 speed from Arizona

but it did run drive and stop. Barely .

I wouldn’t try to crank it.
If it’s been sitting a long time I’d remove the plugs , squirt some oil in the cylinders ,

pull the valve covers ,
Rotate the engine over by hand and check the valves to make sure they all move freely etc.

It’s gonna need every gasket and everything rubber replaced ,

check the rear lower cab corners, every old Chevy truck rusts there.
The wood in the bed is easy to replace, don’t worry about that.

If you pass on that, I have a 1983 K5 I’m going to be listing soon. Goodwrench 350 with about 10,00 miles, 4 speed manual with rusted rockers and some rust in the rear floor. I have Chevy ralley rims and two extra doors and rear glass also.

If it’s a good rust free piece of desirable history I’d say $4500 tops for an enthusiast that wants to dump $20-k or more into it for a super nice show cruiser.
The po$$ibilities are endless with such a truck.
I’d definitely offer $2000.00 but you’ll most likely insult the owner.
I know guys that would easily pay $4500 for that , fix it up mechanically and flip it for major profit.

Any way you look at it that truck is gonna be a freaking money pit from the ground up.

I’d get the owner to drain the gas tank and fill with mew fuel, put in a new fuel filter and clean the carb, float , needle and seat which will definitely be gelled up, okay, most likely.
Remove the coil wire and crank to build oil pressure before cranking.
Have a fire extinguisher handy.
Chances are you’ll need to pop a new carb on there and be done with it unless it’s miraculously fine.

Thanks. The 84-85 toyotas are great. Hard to find good parts for the interior, but easy to work on and well built.
