What did you neglect in your preps?

My wife had to go to S. C. to take fuel and a Generator to her brother. The one thing I realized was I did not have any waders or even knee high muck boots for walking in flooded areas. Luckily I did not have to, but if did... I would have been up Poop Creek.

I am also rethinking my first aid supplies. Seems a little lacking after some of the things I have heard the last couple of days.
good idea!
people forget what kind of nasty you can pick up wading around in the chocolate milk

Realized the generator I bought several months ago was only 120V, and won't run my well pump... I liked everything about it, but now I need to buy another one and get a parrel get, or sell it and buy a new one. Neither option really excites me. Thankfully we did not need it.
idk if yours can but our little well pump in putnam county can be switched to 120 from 220. Inside the panel shows what wire to move. I lost power and used my little 2k honda to pump water.

Have 2 gens on propane for electric backup, Secondary house wiring for hot water heater, well pump and refrigerator. Lost water Saturday. Had several gallons for drinking and a lot for flushing solids. Called the well and pump folks at 0803 this morning and explained situation I was told they are pretty booked and may not be today, which was fine and understandable. She said they would call before the came out. About 10am, they called and asked if I was home. I said yes and she said they are at your place and need to know where your pump house is. I said I would be right out and show them. By they time I got there, they had the pump house panel opened up and diagnosed the problem. By 11am, we had water. They ran a new electrical line from pump house to house (will bury later.) Somewhere in the old line there was a short or separation. 30 years old. Moral: Can't have enough water. I could have hooked up a generator for the well pump, but if there was a break in the electrical line 100 yards to the pump house, the generator would not solve the problem.
Hand pump install for next time?

The well is probably 100 yards from the house and the well is 482 feet deep. If I had to prime the pump I would be SOL!

I would be better off getting 125 yards of electrical cable and run from the generator(s) at the house out to the pump house, but I like your thinking!

I also have a few extra of these that I might let go-

I have several 'jerry cans' that I keep topped off as well as old milk jugs, storing as NONPOTABLE. The BOB looks interesting, but 100 gallons of water weighs 833 pounds +/-. Even the 5 gal. jerry can is over 40 pounds and I ain't thrilled about slinging that weight around at my age!
