I was trenching around my house to install some corrugated drain pipe and I ran into the weirdest thing. At the bottom of the trench about 10-inches down, there was roughly a 2-inch hole going into the side of the trench. I took the end of my wooden shovel and stuck it in, and it went in about 2 feet semi-horizontally. Then I came in from a more vertical angle and was able to poke down about 2 feet in that direction. It was tunneling, not a giant hole. The ground is all compacted red clay so I'm very curious what is living in those tunnels. I don't have any issues with pests and I've never seen any entrance holes. Thoughts???

Chipmunks. You can stick a water hose in one of their top entrance holes, turn it wide open, and it will never overflow.

There are also moles in Georgia. My cat use to bring them home all the time along with squirrels chipmunks and rabbits.
Yep. Thankfully none are near the house, but I have tunnels near the wood line behind the house and my dogs are constantly digging them up and bringing me moles.
