My go to load for 6.8spcll is 28.5-30 grains of IMR 8208 XBR with a 110 grain projectile. I haven't found any other load that will touch it out of my barrels. I have a 14.5 WC, a 18 in. WC Super Sniper that kicks ass with that load and a DD CFH 16 inch barrel. All three really eat that load up.I have not reloaded since I moved to the coast 6 years ago. I had a great gun room at my old place with lots of presses and processing equipment. I had all of my stuff boxed up but didn't have a shop set up. For various reasons I have not been shooting much either so the need to reload hasn't been there. Last summer I started cleaning out what used to be a wood shop to get it set up as my gun room for maintenance of firearms and reloading. Several weeks ago when I went to check zero on my 6.8 AR I use for hunting I realized I was down to just a few rounds. I got motivated and started setting things up. I got my presses all mounted and started organizing. This past Thursday I loaded 40 rounds of 6.8 using my go to Barnes TTSX bullets. Now I'm going to start on some pistol rounds and get my handload inventory built back up. I'll probably start with 357 and 44 mag and then get my Pro 1000 press going to do some 45acp. This should help force me to get to the range more often.
I actually got lucky with load development on my 6.8's. I got on the 6.8spc forum and picked a load someone suggested and worked up 20 or so. BLAM!!! Nailed it on the first try and never looked back. I have tried others but crap compared to 8208. If you haven't tried that load give it a whirl. Every barrel I've shot with that load just shines. I've used it in Wilson combat, ARP when it was arp, Daniel defense and a couple others I can't remember right off the bat. They all love that load. When 8208 dropped off the map I tried a couple other powders and they didn't even come close. If you don't have any let me know and I'll ship you a little bit of it so you can try it in 15-20 rounds and see what you think. I can just measure some out on the scale and put it in the airtight container and ship it your way hell I'll even pay the shipping.
I know it's a nightmare to find 8202 but I just stay patient and a little amazingly stocked gun shop about 40 minutes from me gets it in every now and then. I just called them frequently and ask and if they got it they'll put it under the counter for me. They've done that so many times now they ask me if they want me to want me to put some back for me. Plus they have more primers in there that you could fill up a pickup with. Great little shop!
