What is the Best 308 resizing die?

I just pulled out the instructions for the die set. I wonder if the shell holder is thicker on the Dillon 550 than say a single stage type shell holder?

That should not matter since the sizing die should come in contact with the shell holder regardless.

The pictured brass in question looks to be worn out by “overworking”- firing and sizing. I would throw it away or only use for subsonic low pressure.

Some brass manufacturers make cheap brass that will buldge out sooner that other brands.

Last thought: The issue might be at the other end of the case. I have a bolt action that will not accept round crimped with a Lee Factory Crimp Die. The die causes a slight bulge on the case mouth.

Shell plate differences do matter. The thickness of the top portion (+/-.001) of the shell plate determines the distance the die can travel down the case.

The distance to the shoulder will vary with mixed and matched shell plates from different manufacturers.

Lots of rifle reloaders clean, resize, and prep the brass before putting it on the progressive press.

I use a single stage press for the resize and prime operations, and keep an oversized die without its decapping pin installed—ex: a 338 Federal for 308— and threaded 90% into station #1 of the Dillon, for shell plate alignment purposes. But, I could just leave #1 empty.
