what is this barrel band for

the seller on gun broker sold this as a mosin m91 barrel band but it is too big for my finnish m91. The top of the barrel band has a gap like there should be more wood at the top of the handguard and sides are wider

i didn't see any barrel bands for the m91 with a rounded front or back in the mosin websites either, it seems a bit artsy for Russian military rifle

FWIW, I believe I had an identical one that was installed on an 1898 dated Tula receiver Finnish capture I sold several months ago. Actually posted some photos of it when I bought it:

No close up of the band but it looks identical in the picture, and I'm pretty sure that's the type I had on mine because it was a pain in the ass to remove.

I've seen that style listed as Mosin bands on eBay. If you bought it and can't use it let me know. I think it will fit mine.

I have an 1898 krag carbine that has that barrel band on the front also. Go figure......

both front and back are flat on those this one has one side flat and the other contoured to be round
