I'd like to have a .357 magnum carbine that has the following features:

1-- 16" threaded barrel-- I may want to put a silencer on it.

2(a)-- Bore sized to work with EITHER .358 rifle bullets (such as used by the .35 Remington .35 Whelen) or regular .357" pistol bullets.

2(b)-- bore must have fast twist rifling to stabilize long, heavy subsonic bullets in the 200-230 weight range.

3-- tubular magazine coming up from the butt stock, or side-loading, but NOT under-barrel loading.

4-- extra tall iron sights to look over the top of a suppressor.

5-- Wood stock. Not tacti-cool. A traditional sporting / cowboy / rancher type look to it.

Wow! That would be a very nice rifle. Not much has been posted on this thread in a while, so I will post another pic and see where it goes.

My rossi 92 has all of that, but the barrel isn't really a fast twist, just normal, and I opted for the 20" model. A Ruger 77/357 has a fairly fast twist and I've seen it stabilize 220gr+ sub rounds loading to 357 OAL in a 38 casing.

I should say that its my 3" Model 65. However I would have to say my favorite is my S&W model 60. Neither of these do I enjoy shooting with 158 gr 357 loads. The 60 is my favorite because I find it easy to carry, accurate and fun to shoot.

My 6 inch 28-2. I always imagine it strapped to the hip of some no nonsense rural cop making traffic stops at night in the 70s. A real working man's gun. He may not have shot anyone, but he wasn't worried about lawyers if he needed to smack someone in the head with it.
