What Kind Of Snake Is This

As I thought everyone learned as a kid... look at the pupils. Slits like a cat-- kill it. Round pupils? Grab it and take it home as a pet.

There is no "viper head". And moccasins have a variety of pattern variations. This is the only way to be sure. Otherwise, you'll be killing hognose snakes (look like rattlers) and water snakes (moccasins) left and right.

The coral snake is the only venomous snake in North America with round pupils, but you are unlikely to ever encounter one, and certainly will recognize its coloration if you do.

someone posted a bunch of pics above. All you need to look at is the eyes.
Just a quick question:
Will the snakes be patient and allow you to get close to thoroughly look at their eyes?

Yes they will, if you don't threaten them.
It's rare that you will ever see the same snake twice out in the wild.

Snakes don't wake up in the morning thinking about going out and scaring people.

Forgot about that one too, Most people don't know that

Most people are ignorant of most laws, but that's not an acceptable excuse.
That's why they recommend that you remain silent, so whatever you say will not be used to incarcerate you.

Who the **** wants to get close enough to look at their eyes?

Definitely a water snake and harmless! I have a rat snake that lives in my oak tree in my front yard for the past 3 years and it's about 6 1/2' long. Most snakes are good to have around let them be and they will just go on minding there own business.
