What model S&W is this? Identify please

Read the posts. I told the OP where to look for the model number. I posted a pic with a red arrow showing exactly where the model number is. The OP replied back and stated that it was in fact a 4006, because he has the gun in hand and can CLEARLY read the model number posted where I told him it was.

And why look up features when you can just tell the OP to read what S&W clearly stamped on the side of the gun that he has in his possession.

The relevant passages are in posts #6 and #7.

Geez. It’s like I’m playing card with my sister’s kids or sumpin’......

How did you know the original poster had the gun in his possession?
He didn't tell any of us of us that. Has he been sending you private messages?

When somebody on the Internet sends out a photo of a gun to the world and says
"hey guys, tell me what this is," I don't assume that he has the item in question in his possession today. I don't even assume that he took the picture personally.
As far as I know, it could be a photo that he snagged off of the Internet or maybe a gun that he is considering buying and he copied photo from somebody's ad.

You told him where to look for the guns model number, and he came back answering
"I guess it's a model XYZ."
Well that doesn't tell us that he personally examined the weapon with his bare eyeballs;
he could've followed your instructions and examined a digital photograph of the gun to determine the model number.

Yes, the OP and I have known each other since kindergarten and communicate via mental telepathy on a regular basis. As I was posting my directions here on ODT, I also mind-linked with him and gave him the same instructions. In a mind boggling feat of mental power, I was able to see through his eyes and see the model number on the side of the handgun myself.

FFS.......pull your head out of your posterior. You went through a bunch of unnecessary steps because you failed to read the subsequent posts. The first thing you should have asked the OP was if he had the pistol in his possession, which would have cut to the chase. You could ask him now........I could f’ing care less because I already provided the instruction necessary to accurately answer the question.......waaaaaay back on post #6.

In addition, when I view the pic that the OP attached above on my iPad, I can very clearly see where it says “4006” in the exact spot I told him to look. I can even make out the entirety of the serial number, which I won’t post here. I knew all of that information BEFORE I told him where to look for it in post #6. Why? Because as a good Instructor, instead of giving him the answer, I gave him the tools to find the answer for himself.

Tombstone!

Nothing like a 1911 frame at all. Not even close

I have one. As noted in another post it's stout, but makes a good field and knock about gun.

If I recall it is based on a Sig design, and was notable for NOT being a 1911 frame, and DA/SA action when that was unusual in American guns (this comment applies to all of the all metal S&W semi-autos)

Geez. It’s like I’m playing card with my sister’s kids or sumpin’...... cept playing cards with the kids is more fun and the kids are prolly smarter
