What's a good caliber for Bison?

How much meat will I be able to keep? Will I be able to keep the head or hide?
Grand Canyon National Park will transfer bison carcasses to Arizona Game and Fish Department at the end of each volunteer/ operation period. Arizona Game and Fish Department may distribute what they choose to skilled volunteers on the last day of their service. Skilled volunteers may share with Support Volunteers. Carcass distribution will not exceed one bison per volunteer team. Any parts not desired by volunteers will be transferred to the Tribal governments of GCNP’s 11 traditionally associated tribes.

No guarantee that the carcass portioin you get is in any way related to your activities
I'd be worried about anyone that wanted to go participate given that criteria. If you can't be guaranteed your hide or meat, or even any of either for that matter, basically, you just want to go kill something. No thanks.

300 win mag not bad. 338 win mag, 45/70, 375 h&h/ ruger, 416 rigby/ ruger, 458 win mag and 458 lott. All those should do nicely. You don't want to piss off a Bison....

Bison are the largest land mammals in the state of Arizona, and also North America, these giants average between 60 and 78 inches in height, and weigh between 1,700 and 2,500 pounds.

They can, if prompted, they can take off running, reaching speeds of up to 35 mph for a run of a quarter-mile.

and you want one in your backyard?

I have said many times over the years that the moment the thought is generated inside the brain that a wild animal MIGHT make a good pet. You have already made a felony stupid mistake. I think this thought qualifies! If it just bumped your house it would probably knock it off the foundation.

Dear skilled volunteer applicant,

This is notification that you were not among the 25 individuals randomly selected through the lottery system for the pool from which 12 skilled volunteers will be chosen for bison reduction activities on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon this fall.

If future bison removal operations are necessary, they will be announced at a later date and will require a separate volunteer application.

Thank you for your interest in the bison reduction project.
