What's an effective way to get rid of Armadillos? Shooting them in the head with a 22 air rifle works but what else?

I would kill a couple and let them rot on the perimeters of your home. This should alert the others of danger. I once witnessed a man in a land far away that had a problem with a stray cat that continued to use his garden as a litter box, scratch up his porch furniture , and pee on his door. He set up a humane trap and waited. He had finally caught this Tom cat. This man was a mentor to me , and wanted for me to bear witness to the lesson he was going to teach the cat. I asked him, are you going to kill the cat? He said no, that punishment is meant for thieves. He took the big orange cat out of the cage , and pinned it down by its neck. He then smirked and said watch this. He rammed his middle finger in the cat’s anus, and proceeded to insult the cat in his native language. After about 15-30 seconds of this , he leaned in and whispered in the cats ear “ meow”. The cat was then freed and ran off never to come back.
Been having problems with a mean stray at my folks' place back home. This sounds a lot more entertaining than taking pot shots at him with a .22...

Pretty much what you said. I asked a removal guy, and he said they are practically impossible to get rid off. They feed on live insects. So if you can keep your yard virtually pest free, then they will have no reason to be there. He told me to shoot them with a subsonic 22 and call the police and tell them you just dispatched a "Possum on the Half Shell" just to cover your backside.

Don’t call the police. A blue haired “it” may respond and lock you up for animal cruelty. If you are a white male they may prosecute you for just thinking about shooting it.
