A search for .38 Super doesn't turn up much on this forum. I realize that guns in this caliber aren't just everywhere; but they aren't really Unicorns either. How many of you guys have these pistols collecting dust on the back shelf of your safe?

Gotta say whoever named this cartridge REALLY missed the mark.

Had they named it 9mm Magnum back in the day I GUARANTEE it would be the most popular cartridge in the world.

Let's face it, .38 Super is probably one of the most remarkable cartridges available but the name is the handicap.

"Hey bud, what is that?"

"Oh, it's a great gun, it's in .38 thuwooper!"

"Uh, ok. Well take a look at my new .45..."

Yep, cause it is a really great round, although I think it has been eclipsed by the 357 sig in terms of popularity, handgun and ammo availability and in performance.

Plus, like you referred to: 357 Sig sounds better than 38 super!

Now how about that 9x25 Dillon; now that should be the 9mm Super Mag...

well none of my 3 are collecting dust for sure!
I own a Citadel 1911, A Taurus 1911 and a EAA Witness.
would likely own a CZ if they chambered it!
the cartridge has a great history and its kind of a niche caliber but its sent from Heaven for the reloader!
Being slightly ahead of the 40 S & W generally in power but flatter shooting its a very good caliber for many uses.
as its a true 9 MM plus P it can utilize all the projectiles available in that caliber, reloading cost for me un about 6.50-7.00 bucks per 50 round box, about 12 -13 bucks per box of 50 for self defense ammo, that's of course with me already having the brass.
yea they get shot quite a bit!

Actually I often refer to mine as exactly that!
I think if we look at the design and date of inception it was right around the End of WW I, at that time no American company wanted anything that even hinted at being a German/ Europian caliber.
And what was more AMERICAN than the 38?
IT was the THING to have in the late 20-early 30's and was top dog in power, add the magazine capacity VS then then carried revolvers and you were the BIG DOG if you had one.
IF the Army had listened to Browning we would all be hailing the great caliber it is and pointing to the 1911 38 Super as winning every conflict since its introduction!
