There are usually a good many companies and individuals there with a range of teachable skills.
I believe it's a good starting point.
It's all subjective. There are different skills for different situations.
We learned desert survival skills so if you dropped me in the middle of the Amazon I'd probably last about half an hour before I was swallowed by an anaconda.

I bought a few books from Tru-Prep to do that very thing and I highly recommend it. Edible plants, medicinal plants, SAS Survival guide. The OP should have those to refer to in his bug out bag or pack.
