Which smoker for a beginner?

Looking to get into the smoking game. Was offered a Louisiana grill (pellet fed) at a good price. Didnt think i needed one, but the more my wife and i thought about it, decided we would entertain the idea. We have a big family and love all bbq. So what should i get?
Weber Smokey Mountain 22" Easy, no auger to fail, use wood, charcoal Bricketts or Lump or a combo of those. Good tasting meat. Set it and forget it. 250 degrees for hours without touching it is the way I run it.

Big Green Egg all the way. Smoker, oven, and grill all in one. Just finished a 10lb shoulder roast for a church covered dish. Set it at 225 last night @ 2100h. Slept until 0830 and took it off at 0930 @ 198. Rested during the service and then pulled it right before lunch. Another guy brought some pulled pork, too. He did his on a Traeger. He took half of his back home with him. I took none.

Lots of great videos on how to use…I do pretty good with it.I can usually get it going and monitor for a couple hours. Then once it is good and stable I can let it go on pork butts till I am ready to take off…usually 6 to 8 hours
Yep, I loved mine until my son bought me the Recteq for Christmas and just haven’t used it much. My Smokey mountain is 8yrs old and no issue at all.

I have a Recteq RT-700 and my biggest complaint is the lack of the ability for extra smoke anytime I want without using a smoke box. My much cheaper PitBoss allowed me to add smoke in seconds by adjusting one simple setting.

I’d recommend the PitBoss for a beginner.

Currently have a Kamado Joe. I like it a lot. A more economical option is a pit barrel smoker, which I used for several years before getting the Kamado Joe. It was pretty darn good too.

A good drum smoker is hard to beat once you figure it out . I have a Oklahoma joe Bronco and always have great success. I like it so much we bought a second one for the hunting camp.
