Who here has gotten a job offer from a previous employer?

The last time I interviewed for a job was 1988. I've been "recruited" several times over the years (only once successfully) but I've been "asked on" at three companies over a thirty year career. I once quit a job where an employment contract was violated by a dumbass department head. Ran into the owner of that company at a wedding reception for his secretary (my GF at the time was a friend of hers) and he begged me to "come talk to him" but I never did. **** me once, shame on you, **** me twice, shame on me.

As, of 1 February 2025, I'm Cancer free. My old commander offered me a good job in Kuwait or Saudi Arabia, my choice. Tax free money, I told my wife n daughter, I was taking the job, its the same job I did in the military, both lost there minds when, I told them. So, I did not take the job, now I'm bored to death at home.

If the previous employer did not recognize your worth and made very little effort to retain key employees, why would you consider returning?

Similar but not quite the same is I've heard folks striving for a counter offer from their current employer. I've known folks to go apply for other jobs just to get the "new" company to call their current boss/job to ask for a reference in the hopes that they would realize that employee was about to leave and offer more money, benefits, etc. I've always felt like this in that if they didn't realize someone's true worth initially why, all of a sudden, are they worth more (I'm probably not stating this exactly right but y'all get what I mean)? IMO, after they know you are thinking of leaving they'll never see you as a truly loyal employee.

Won’t see you as a truly loyal employee.

What does that mean? Does that or should that even exist anymore?

Let me guess? You are over the age of 40 or even 50..am I right?
Because people in 20-30 now understand 5 jobs in 10 years moves you up the $$$ income ladder much much much faster than 1 job held for the same 10 years.

Do I agree with that? No. But I’m old.
But is it true? Yes. It is.

100%. Saw this during my career. Nitwits hired as "assistant project managers" leave for position at a competitor, come back in 8 months as a damned Vice President. Ridiculous.
