Why hide the Serial Number?

I am genuinely curious as to why some members hide the S/N of their firearm when posting pictures. When I take pictures, I don’t give any thought to capturing the serial number or concealing it. I see no risk with that information being posted. Walk into any LGS and the serial numbers are visible and I have never had anyone stop me from taking a photo when I have been comparing a couple for purchase. What am I missing? Should I be hiding that information?
