I went to the nearest Kroger this evening, it's located on Hwy 96 in Bonaire/Warner Robins, GA and the produce section, meat section, dairy and eggs sections were just about empty. It is a real eye opener to see how empty those shelves can get prior to and during inclement weather. Temperatures were around 40 degrees F here today and much of the snow/ice melted; however, the store manager told me their restocking trucks were stuck and unable to leave their Atlanta distribution point.

The nightly news proclaims the freezing temperatures tonight will freeze any thawed ice again so the outlook hasn't improved.

This scenario really makes one stop and think about the importance of having an emergency stock pile. Fortunately, I keep a well stocked pantry and we keep three or four cases of water so I'm not overly worried. But, I made the comment to my sister that this situation just goes to show how quickly supplies will diminish in an emergency.

How are you guys in north Ga situated?

I even saw empty shelves in Walmart. Not only food, but they were totally sold out of D cell batteries. I got the last four packs at Lowes. Walmart in C'ville even closed down yesterday. Makes you aware what could happen with a real SHTF situation. Even a small one.

It amazes me how much stuff got bought here in south GA and we had one day of ice! Wal-Mart was a mad house. I just drove on by and laughed. It does make you wonder how bad it COULD be.

The wife and I hiked to Kroger (Lawrenceville-Suwanee Hwy) this afternoon. Just to get some air, we really didn't need anything. Here's the milk aisle:

Saw some real idiots on the road. One guy in a lifted truck came down the road really fast. The truck's rear end looked squirrely as the road was still a mix of ice and slush. I made the universal "slow down" gesture, since I was pretty much standing in the wipe out area on the side of the road, if he lost control. His response? He gunned it. A Darwin candidate, for sure.

This ^^^ is pretty much what the milk section looked like at Kroger here today.

Well, at least we still have the Internet to feed our addiction...lol.

me and my fiance were looking for food so we went back to my place (quarter mile down the road) and she was suprised i had so much food stocked (canned goods, pasta, frozen venison) and asked why we needed to go to the store. the only thing i can never keep a good stock of is beer. luckily target sells beer.
