The guns were not legally purchased.. They were purchased by someone initially legally yes. But Sayeed was either given the guns illegally or he purchased them illegally since they were not legal to have in California. He had to go to another state to get them, and other states are not allowed to even sell long guns to people from California, Massachusetts, or New York without an FFL transfer in the buyers home state so that they can't legally purchase them.

It was an illegal sale plain and simple. Weather the third party who originally purchased the rifles legally knew it was an illegal sale remains to be seen. We don't know yet if he flashed a fake ID or something to buy them in another state via private party sale, either way Sayeed obtained them illegally and it pisses me off that people keep calling it a legal purchase
