Working out

my wife has been doing the smoothie thing for breakfast and has been liking it.

my plan for now is start doing smoothies and/or healthy omelets made with egg whites for breakfast. tuna or chicken salad sandwiches for lunch while im at work, and im going to try and find some healthy snacks i actually like to eat through out my shift.

at home its not so hard to eat healthy, but being in an ambulance for 13 hours sometimes without access to a microwave makes it difficult to eat healthy without eating the same crap all the time.

You're right man, finding healthy food on the go is freaking tough. Maybe pack a lunch?

i do pack my lunch most days but sometimes i dont bring enough and get hungry in the middle of the night in the ghetto with out a wholefoods around. working over nights screws up your eating and sleeping schedule real bad so some nights im not hungry at all and others i cant seem to eat enough. and most of the time i only get about 4 hours sleep between shifts.

well im off to the gym now.

thanks for all the advice folks, keep it coming. im sure im not the only one benefiting from the info.

ditch the bread, eat the yolk, and check out intermittent fasting. Its ok to skip a meal, we can go weeks without food... our ancestors were not so fragile constructed that they had to eat every 5 hours.
If your blood sugar isnt out of whack from sugar/grains you wont even notice skipping a meal. I do it all the time, If Im on the road, I wait till I get home to eat. Our bodies are designed to STORE and RELEASE Fat as needed. Eat too much: Store. Eat too little: Release.

Ill put mine against yours any day. My blood work shows me as super****ing human.

Cholesterol is not evil. Its the Firefighters.
heres a good (and quick) read:

there is alot of new studies and science backing this.
Well, ok whatever. I don't feel like I am at a health disadvantage by consuming a lot of veggies, and smaller amounts of lipids. You also impede your immune system from producing antibodies to fight cancer, heart disease, etc with an animal protein heavy diet.

Are you signed up for the Peachtree Roadrace? I got my notification today. I'll bet you some beers on who has the fastest 10k? I pulled my gracilius a month ago and have maybe run 6 miles in 4 weeks, so I'm losing ground ofr the time being, but I'm up to it.

Whaddya say? I ran it last year as well, lots of fun.

I hope anyone running the race does well. less work for me. ill probably be on a bike working the route.

Just watch your cholesterol man. Your immune system will suffer will large amounts of animal protein,a nd minimal vegetables as well. It's your body, but weight is only a small component of overall health.
what science do you have to back that claim that my immune system is compromised by eating animal protein? If were talking processed junkstore meat, I might agree... but then were not talking the meat, were talking preservatives and additives and garbage.

too much greenstuff without heavy variation can cause an excess of Phytates and Lectins.
I cant argue with a Diet of Fish, variety of fruits veggies, if youre avoiding grains/sugars and inflammatory seed oils.

But if you want to get into the Biochemistry of it, youll find really quick that most of the garbage that the Govt recommends is not based on science at all.

Sincerely, it's about being aware of what you're eating. I have two step-daughters who are picky... makes me crazy because my fie and I try very hard to eat healthy. Minimal meat intake, minimal salt, LOTS of veggies... fresh when possible, or frozen. Almost nothing from a can, and nothing out of a box. Stick to the outside edge of the grocery store aisles, read the labels of what you're eating. Try not to make too drastic of a change because if you COLD TURKEY all sweets, you'll crave them and then binge which is bad. Ease your way into better eating by introducing more fresh veggies, and smaller portions of meat. Season with herbs and minimal oils, cut salt COMPLETELY whenever possible. It's not easy, but you will become accustomed to the change, your taste buds will adjust and your body will react by dropping weight. Drink LOTS of water, cut down or eliminate alcohol for the time being. If you're strict with yourself, you will see results within 2-3 weeks as your reward.

im not, I dont drink beer, Id be happy to do another 5k or 10k with some ammo on the line ;)
even tho that would only be athletic comparison and not overall health at all :)

Cholesterol is needed for a number of hormones, including testosterone, limiting in your diet can also strongly limit T.

Lipids (good ones, there is a difference.) feed a number of cells in our bodys... guess what most of our brains are made of?
