I'm thinking in a situation like that, you'd have to close some distance. Maybe even try to tackle the guy. That just sounds insane doesn't it? I guess that when the SHTF, you gotta drop balls and do what needs to be done to minimize the damages.

Even if your pants are full of doodoo. Which mine would be.

tear gas+confusion (too much noise/chaos and too dark)+people running everywhere+perp has a rifle to my pea shooter = HELL NO for me. now if he walked up each row and shot, I would have no choice but to shoot when he got to me & mine.

I imagine nothing will be comfortable if you're in a situation that requires use of deadly force. But to answer your question, knowing what we know after the fact, I think we would all feel quite comfortable shooting this killer in the face.

Tear Gas is the big issue for me, would have attempted to stay covered and wait for him to get close. With the adrenaline I doubt I would have been able to think through the BP vest and would have just shot for center of mass initially then just continue to land any shots my front sight lay on him.

If the reports are correct that was a no carry area.

If it were a carry area and I was in the position to respond, like to think I would, and to do so effectively.

Great answer, i feel the same way.

How many people think they are going to make an accurate shot in a dark theater, after a flash-bang, and through tear gas?

How many innocent people would get hit by return fire? The suspect had the advantages of surprise, superior fire power, and proper equipment to deal with the environment.

Smoke bomb, and had mask on, I think a blind man has better vision than he had.Yes I would atleast take one for the team either way I'm going to die.

There has been research into crowd behavior. I remember a woman being beaten to death with a crowd watching. No one tried to help and the whole crowd was just frozen. Then there have been cases where something similar happened but ONE person acted and the freeze broke and others jumped in to help. I can't remember what term they used but it is a valid phenomenon. It happened on Flight 93 on 911. Of the four planes hijacked that day, one on one was any action taken. SOMEONE tried. And that made a HUGE difference. Did they die any way? Yes. But they saved an unknown number of lives on the ground.

In this theater CC was not an option. But even so, had ONE person rushed the guy, maybe, MAYBE it would have triggered the FIGHT response in another. In Georgia, if one of us aramed citizens had been in the audience and had ACTED, perhaps that would have been the catalyst required to get others to TRY as well. If nothing else, it would have FORCED the murdering SOB to focus on the one shooting at him for a few seconds possibly distracting him from murdering one more innocent.

How many innocent people would get hit by return fire?

Well, he shot 50 innocent people, killing 12. How many LESS would get hit is the question I'd be asking.

Sometimes I just have to shake my head in amazement at the idea of carrying, but being completely unwilling to actually USE it if it can save lives. I'm not talking about playing hero or cop, just being a man.
